GRE (Graduate Record Examinations): There are many exams taking place today, which shows how much the competition is increasing. GRE is also an exam conducted all over the world. What is GRE?

GRE or Graduate Record Examination is a General Test conducted as Computer-based or paper-based standardized test. This test is conducted by ETS i.e. Educational Testing Services. This test was started in 1949, and is about the duration of 3 hours and 45 minutes which includes 1-minute breaks after each section and a 10-minute break after third section. The marks scored in this exam are valid for 5 years. Educational Testing Services GRE scores are accepted for Masters level programs by most of the top graduate level schools like the popular Master of Science degree – MS in USA.

There is no fixed GRE exam dates, it is been conducted many times a year. You can give the test any time by meeting at the nearest GRE Exam center. But sometimes due to the peak application season, you may not get the appointment. Due to which you may be forced to go fix a date and venue which may be not suitable to you.

GRE 2016 Eligibilty Criteria

Every exam has a pattern and its eligibility criteria, so is GRE having its eligibility criteria. GRE eligibility requirement just the document required which can prove your identity.

For eg. if you are in India, you’ll need to have a valid passport, which shows your full name, photograph and signature. You cant use any other identity proof such as birth certificate etc., you will need to have a valid original passport strictly.

Each and every college will have its eligibility like minimum age, experience and qualification related filters. Based on the GRE Scores each college has vacancy of seats.

GRE Paper Pattern

As GRE is a generalised test so it does not have any field or discipline. This test is just to evaluate aptitude and skills of a person. If we see the GRE Paper then it have 3 sections:

  • Analytical Writing
  • Verbal Reasoning
  • Quantitative Reasoning

GRE registration fee is $195 which is much cheaper than GMAT with registration fees of $250. If you want to change the venue and dates then you have to pay $50 as an extra amount.
